Memoirs and Memories

Ah, Vagina season!  (And by this, I mean the season when we do the Vagina Monologues.  Not Vagina Season in the Elmer Fudd, we’re hunting wabbits, vagina-hunting, aspect of the word.)  I love this time of year.

This last week we had 2 very important days for the cast.  One was cast photos, which was just during rehearsal this week, a couple of nights ago.  I’ll post photos when I get some from the photographer…  One of the questions Eve Ensler asked her female interviewees when gathering info for the monologues was, “If your vagina got dressed, what would it wear?”  So in recent years, our cast has taken to taking cast photos where everyone comes dressed in what they believes their vagina would wear, if it got dressed.  (We also do basic photos in V-Day colors). But it’s really fun to dress up and it’s also great to see what the other women come up with to wear each year.

And last weekend, we had our Memoir night.  We started this tradition several years ago with our cast.  I think we decided it was in 2006 or 2007…  Anyway, we wanted a night when the cast could come together to share their own stories.  Rather than call them our own monologues, as they weren’t prepared, and people could bring stories, poems, art, songs, anecdotes, etc, we decided to dub them Memoirs.  Each cast member was asked to bring her favorite comfort food to share for a potluck and her Memoir, to share why she joined the V-Day movement.  And thus, Memoir night was born…
