“I’m honored just to be nominated” is such an overused phrase. But when said, it is meant wholeheartedly! At least, I assume so! Perhaps some people are upset when they don’t win, but for me, the fact that something I did deserves a nod is worth a bit of celebration.
…Cue the festivities!
I recently received an email from Kelp Journal. Last summer, they published a personal essay I wrote called “Dolphin Interrogation” in their Summer 2021 Issue No. 5.
This year, Kelp Journal chose to nominate some of their published pieces for an award called The Best of the Net.
This awards-based anthology was created in 2006 by Sundress Publications in order to support and recognize the online literary landscape. Each year, digital publications are allowed to nominate pieces in Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry and Art categories from each of their issues for the award and publication in the anthology. It’s a wonderful program and the anthology is full of high quality work from excellent online journals, many of whom I’ve admired for some time!
This year, Kelp Journal chose to submit my nonfiction piece, “Dolphin Interrogation“! I am truly humbled to have anyone consider my writing worthy of inclusion in an anthology that publishes such high caliber work. So it was with surprise and gratitude that I received the news of the nomination from Kelp Journal. Thanks to all of the staff there, first for publishing my piece at all – which was thrilling – but also for believing in my writing.
